Use certified paper, demand vegetable-based inks and recycle your paper waste.

CERTIFIED PAPER
To combat deforestation we must use certified paper Certified paper comes from
sustainable forests in which more trees are planted than are logged. FSC, SFI and
PEFC are the three organizations that certify paper and make sure it truly is
coming from sustainable forests: 

VEGETABLE INKS
To curb our dependency on petroleum, we must demand the use ofvegetable-
based inks, which are better quality and can cost less thanpetroleum-based ones.
If the consumer demands Green, the industry will provide it.

USE 100% RECYCLED OR CERTIFIED RECYCLED PAPER
Recycling our paper waste spares new trees from being cut. Since we can’t recover
all the pulp needed to make the paper we consume, recycled paper must be
supplemented with certified virgin fiber. Paper with a partial recycled content, and
not certified, could come from devastated forests. 100% recycled or certified paper
with or without recycled content are the only safe alternatives to save our forests.

RECYCLE YOUR PAPER WASTE
Paper, when it rots in landfills, produces methane, (20 times more potent than
carbon dioxide). We must recycle all our paper waste properly and make sure that
the recycle center makes new paper products with it.

VICTORIA’S “DIRTY” SECRET
Victoria’s Secret, for example, was caught using paper from devastated forests in
their catalogs. The backlash was so great that they promptly switched to certified
paper and now proudly carry the FSC logo.

CITY OF HIALEAH GOES GREEN

Partners can participate on projects such as our “ReGrow Haiti”. CGP’s goal is to
reforest Haiti and, eventually, make it the “Sustainable-Forest Capital of the
World”. Our plan will work because it is more profitable to use the land to grow
trees and replace them rather than to simply cut them down. "ReGrow Haiti” will
